by searching out database to contact foster volunteers in your area and
screening them (if they do not appear appropriate placements let us let us know
and we'll remove their info from our database). Please do tell any foster that you screen and approve to give you
as a reference in addition to their vet reference if contacted by a member of the military looking for foster.

by, possibly, if there is time, making home visits. |
If YOUR RESCUE IS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO MILITARY BASE HOUSING:
Then please let
us know as we could use your help in this endeavor! Optimally we would
like to see these cats placed in private homes, but in some areas that may
not be an option.
SCREENING:
You will find that we have asked the potential fosterers to provide a lot of
information so those using this service can assess the quality of the home.
We know that those who are active in rescue are expert in screening. Please feel free to
contact us
if you are willing to help with screening homes or doing home visits in your area
or if you have potential long term fosters lined up. We will help in any way
we can and may be able to use such contacts with rescuers nationwide to
arrange a home visit if there is time, though in most cases that will likely
not be possible.
*
If you screen and you find that a volunteer meets your
standards, you may want to explain to them about the likelihood that we're
facing lots of owner turn-ins with this economy and ask if they would be
available for foster in other situations and would work with you if they
are not contacted by the military during this active call up period.
HELP TO TRANSPORT A CAT:
The military will see
that some rescuers and others have offered help with transport of their pets
to family or foster homes in our database. The database will show RESCUE TRANSPORT in
the space for "years of experience". We do suggest that the
military check their credentials before arranging transport. Recognized
501(c)3 organizations are preferred. Many people are looking for ways
to help our military in any way possible and want to contribute, but not all
people are honest or can be trusted, so we strongly advise they do screen
transporters well as you would screen fosterers.
ABOUT PUREBRED CATS:
Many people, and, in fact, some rescuers, are not
aware of the vagaries and needs of specific breeds, so if you know of
a long term foster for a Purebred cat or are contacted by a military person
looking for one, please do contact us
to help with placement, screening the home and arrangements. We work with many
purebred rescues nationwide and have frequent contact with many of them. We also have the names
many people who are expert in one or many breeds and who are offering foster for cats owned by the
military in many areas.
LIST YOUR RESCUE:
We advise that military personnel who cannot find a foster for a domestic longhair or shorthair in our database search
FelineRescue.net listings to find a
rescue near them, so be sure your rescue is listed! If your rescue is not
listed, please do sign up!
If you are a purebred rescuer, please be sure to also sign up on the Purebred Cat Breed Rescue Website.
If you have any questions, please do contact us.
